Finally got round to catching up with the adapter plate mods!

Another plate had been produced, to correct the few small errors in my measuring and allow for the starter motor to be re-positioned so as to utilise an existing bell housing fixing for one of the starter motor mountings.

The starter fitted to the plate on the Mt75 gearbox,

A small amount of material will need to be removed from the bell housing of the Mt75 gearbox to allow for starter motor clearance.

I cut mine out with an air belt sander, slowly, to establish exactly how much material had to be removed, but for those of you that choose to utilise this conversion, an angle grinder will suffice. This would be quite easy to accomplish even if the gearbox were still in the vehicle.
In an ideal world I would re-weld the bell housing case, but a small metal plate and a large amount of sealant will no doubt suffice.

I hope to find time to get the engine fully fitted to the gearbox over the forthcoming weekend, watch this space!

speedo cables no problem mate - just use an MT75 with a cable and the end that plugs into the speedo cluster is the same on the mk1/2/3/4/5

Finally, after lots of 'head scratching', and a few bits of scrap metal, we have a 'working' Mt75/Essex adapter plate :D

Information on how to fit the plate to the rear of your Essex engine is as follows;

Remove your existing clutch and flywheel,
Image

Remove the tin plate fitted to the rear of your engine,
Image

The rear of your engine should now look like this,
Image

Fit the adapter plate, tapping it firmly onto the dowels that protrude from the rear of your engine,
Image

Insert and secure the fixings provided, there are four countersunk fittings, two each 3/8 and 5/16 unc, make sure these are fitted in the correct holes,

Install the hex head bolts in the remaining holes,
Image

Install the custom spigot bearing supplied,
Image

Re-fit your flywheel, the head of one of the countersunk fixings can just be seen,
Image

The rear of your engine should now look like this,

The next post will detail clutch selection and fitting.

If its any use I can quickly create STL and GIO files from scale pictures or drawings.

eg if someone makes an adaptor plate by hand I can either use a picture of it or an outline tracing to create cutting files.

Right then lads, since the development of the adapter plate is all but complete, this may well be the appropriate time to put a price to it.

As you all no doubt appreciate, a great deal of time, effort and £s have been put into the development of what I would consider to be a precise piece of engineering. I do however recognise the support and assistance of other Forum members, without whom this project would have been more difficult to complete.
I set out to produce something never before done and believe that I have achieved it.

The intention is to provide a 'modular' product, where the adapter plate (and associated fittings), can be purchased as a basic 'kit', this will suit those of you wishing to fit the Mt75 gearbox to the rear of your existing V4/6 Essex engine, to replace the existing 4 speed gearbox.
Engine mountings, power steering pump brackets, exhausts etc, (for Mk3/4/5), will be sold as 'add-ons' for those wishing to install an Essex V6 in place of their 2.5di engine.

The adapter plate, securing bolts and spigot bearing will be £175 to Forum members. Postage will be charged at cost, we are happy to 'ship' anywhere in the world. Collection from our works or from myself at any of the meetings/shows I attend would also be possible.

The pricing of the 'add-ons' to install the engine into Mk3/4/5 vehicles has yet to be finalised.

A 'build' thread will be put together and posted on the Forum to assist those who make the purchase install the parts and as always we will be available to be contacted on the works number should any of you require further assistance.
