Mk2 pinto to early di conversion

Right i am going down tomorrow to break the mk4, i am gonna get everything out of the engine bay basically, gearbox, x-member, floor around gear stick, fuel tank (is the sender unit got the return feed in it?) am i gonna need anything else?

Hi guys, stripped the mk4 today of everything i need (i think) to do the di conversion, only trouble is the wiring loom from the engine on the di is compleatly different to the old mk2 pinto one, anyone got any tips on how to wire up the di into the mk2 loom?

all you need it to include a live (key on) feed to the pump stop soileniod all the other wires are the same just extend or shorten them

so i should find all the wires should match up colour code wise then?
Just a case of extending them
Also the alternator has a air.vac pipe of some tuye that goes to the brake servo, no fitting on the mk2, will i need to change the servo?

if you prise the bit out of the servo i think they are same mk2- mk4 so keep the alt the same

not sure on the wire colours - little things like the water temp sensor will be not calibrated correctly - try it 1st to see how good/bad it is - but you may need to swap the sender if you have probs! but that wont stop you getting it on the road

Looks like it could be a bit late for you, but bortaf is selling a whole Mk3 F reg with a DI and type9 in it.

Cheers fred but compleatly stripped the mk4 now of everything i need so yeah bit late, would have made life simple prop wise with a type 9 but hey never mind

As for the servo luke, i dont think the mk2 one has the hole for the alternator pipe to fit in but i have taken off the mk4 servo hoping this will fit on the mk2, can you advise yes/no?

Temp sender wise i have removed the mk4 dash and was thinking of swapping the fuel/temp gauges out as i fitted a new one in the mk4 not so long ago and thought it may need to match the di sender but then the fuel gauge may be all to pot then?

I have the motor on the drive now and split the box off to find the bellhousing full of oil so i am guessing a new crank seal is needed

New clutch to go in, lick of paint maybe to spruce it up a little then can start thinking of pulling out old smokey the pinto.........joy


Any more tips guys before i offer the di up??????

As for the servo luke, i dont think the mk2 one has the hole for the alternator pipe to fit in but i have taken off the mk4 servo hoping this will fit on the mk2, can you advise yes/no?

ive never used a later servo - the mk2 one should have the pipe - or how else can it work?? you could just cut and join the pipes (mk2 servo end - mk4 vac pump end) if you want but ive a feeling the complete mk4 pipe will fit in

We have never changed the servo, just use the pipe from the Mk3. Yeah sounds like the crank seal is on it's way out, you willneed a new clutch too umless you don't mind it juddering when you manouver.

I will try put a pic on to show you the mk2 servo, as it was a pinto it didnt have the pipe on it

New clutch is waiting to go in, i have been forward planning for a change!

Now about that pic i am not sure i will manage to get it on here but i will try, give me a min!

Problem solved! its been a hard couple of days stripping the mk4 on me todd, thats my excuse anyway!

have a look inside the cab near the bulkhead passenger side, the engine loom plugs in there, diesel engine loom should plug straight in

Hi gemini, yes i found this but the mk4 loom was compleatly different plug or so i think, i may be making another cock up saying this but when removing the loom from the mk4 i couldnt find a plug anything like the one on the mk2

I may have missed a trick here and am buggered now as the mk4 loom from the engine went into a black round plug by the battery (that i could not get apart) and then merged into loads more wiring from the headlamps etc and then through the bulkhead near the steering colum so i ended up chopping the loom as it was the only thing stopping me lifting out the lump?
