it's been like it since the mk1 - the engine/box/prop is in line with the back axle which is offset - doing it this way is the correct way :!: - you can adapt sierra/granada mounts when fitting the cologne v6 but it will make the prop front u/j have an extra bend in it :|

Had time to do a bit more on the conversion today,

Pas pump adapter bracket fitted;
Image

Di pas pump bracket fitted to the adapter, the 'leg' at the rear of the Di bracket has been removed;
Image

The standard Di pas pump is then installed;

I then fitted the rest of the major engine parts, left cylinder head installed;
Image

The left exhaust manifold, this is a Mk1 Granada item;

The right hand cylinder head fitted;

Then the inlet and carb;

I had forgotten how simple these old engines were :lol:

Looking sweeter every time you post m8!

how do the exhaust manifolds compare to pinto and di in regards to the 'output' port- are they all same diameter;
that is to say does di/pinto downpipe fit granada manifold or are flanges/diameters different?

top work as usual fella! 8)

Good news regarding the clutch kit lads :D

After much offering up and head scratching with my clutch supplier we have managed to identify the three parts required to assemble a 'kit' for the clutch. This will work for the 3.0 V6 and will be all new parts, no modification of the release arm will be required :D

Once I have wrestled with my supplier over the costing of the kit I will post a price on this thread.

The 2.0 V4 will require a different kit, we are still working on that one!

The Pinto down pipes are the same size as the Granada ones, so should be a good enough size as two are used on the Essex!
The plan is to manufacture a two-into-one pipe from the manifolds to connect to the 2.5Di system, as was done for the Pinto conversions. These will then be duplicated by a local exhaust manufacturer and made available for those that purchase the 'kit'.

Spent a bit of time working on the water hose layout the last few days.

My local Ford agent kindly emailed over a water hose layout for the Mk3 3.0 SVO, if I had a scanner I would post it up :oops:

Looking at the schematic, the top hose has the electric fan switch in it.
It looks like it will be possible to use the existing 2.5 di top hose, this fits the V6 thermostat housing, this will be joined to the rad with another short piece of hose, probably cut from the rad end of the di bottom hose and a custom 'T' piece which will house the fan switch.

The bottom hose on the SVO has a 'T' piece made in it which connects up to the large fitting at the base of the expansion tank, again a custom 'T' piece will be made, hopefully this will allow both top and bottom hoses to be assembled using the existing di items.

An electric fan switch will be supplied with the hose adapters, the operation temperature will be; on at 87 degrees C, off at 82 degrees C.
Would that be about suitable for the old Essex?

id rather run bit cooler than bit hotter!

There is an identical fan switch that operates at 82 degrees on, 72 degrees off.
I selected these ones as there would be a choice of temps from otherwise identical switches, perhaps a bit of experimentation is called for :lol:

Both switches are 'on order' mate, along with the brass to manufacture the 'T' pieces.

wahoo out cometh the blow torch eh? do like a bit of brazing or soldering!

I heard copper will eat steel and alu etc away if fitted upstream in an electrolyte such as water, and my block looks tad sorry inside the water jacket,
can i add an inhibitor to the coolant ? dont think theres any copper but it will dezinc brass!

blows my winter washer bottle heater idea out of the water then :cry:

It will be ok mate, most temp senders are brass, rads used to be brass/copper.
The only reason all the ally crumbled on old engines, (Essex, Pinto, Kent, etc), was that we never used anti-freeze all year round in times gone by! Modern anti-freeze is also summer coolant, helping to avoid summer over heating issues and contains corrosion inhibitors to solve electrolysis problems associated with mixed metal engines.
The overheating problems associated with the Essex engines would never happen today.
