twin choke? 38dgms?

yes 38 dgms ,,,,, been getting small running issus for a while now and talking to the carb man he was saying back in the day a carb s life was 10 years or 100 k and this has been on 28 years  so its done well  transit came off the line with a single carb so yours will have been swapped somewhere along the line a lot have so it may be older than you think

I've got an essex v6 inlet manifold amongst the spares which has the larger rectangular bolt spacing and two circular inlet bores, pretty sure it is the one that takes the weber twin choke carbs, reckon it came off a scimitar as i got two short downpipes that bolt to the exhaust manifolds at the same time and these were made for the scimitar, i thought the pipes may be useful some time and they are vgc and i got the lot for a drink.

Have you figured out how to do the linkages then Neil and how much was a new carb, £300 plus?

THE MANIFOLDS ARE IDENTICAL EXEPPT FOR THE CENTRE HOLES THE LINKAGES LOOK LIKE THEY WILL SWAP OVER WITH MAYBE ADJUSTMENT ON THE FINAL ROD,, FINGERS CROSSED

I had ago on this today and followed instruction on weber site to do it by ear.
First to wind out idle screw so its not touching, then wind it back in to half a turn past touching,
(but i had to wind mine in more than that as it wouldnt run)

Then wind both mixture screws in till it stops and then back out a quarter turn at a time untill it runs at it best and fasted. Then set the idle speed.
But it did say if you you need to wind them out more than 1.5 turns you might need bigger jets, i had to wind mine out 2.1/4 turns :?

I also tried to compare this with a colortune kit. What i did find when i took no 4 plug out and fitted kit then tried to adjust the right hand mixture screw i only got any change if the screw was all the way in or all the way out, no change in colour between these points.

So anyhow when i adjusted the screws i adjusted both at the same time, but only the left hand side on was making any change in engine speed.

m8 do you have the sandwich plate between carb and inlet manifold with the W shaped diffuser- its vital to aid even (or more even) distribution of fuel/air charge and i heard rear 2 pots run lean without... just a shot in the dark!

be interesting to see performance difference with a single carb.

don't get me wrong,,, the performance is much better speed wise but theres just a flat spot in the curve I cant cure,, the single carb will take it back to original after all the transit low compressin engine was made that way

I just bought these, 42 DCNF's on an original Ford manifold. That would wake the Tranny up a bit :)

Probably still a good improvement Neil. They would add 25hp to an otherwise stock Capri HC engine, but the biggest gain is in low-mid range torque. Apparently the distribution of air and fuel in the stock single carb V6 manifold is terrible, the centre cylinders get the lions share of the air and fuel, and the end cylinders are down quite a large percentage, less than 90% of what the centre cylinders get. The rear two cylinders run hotter as they tend to run leaner. The "W" deflector fitted by Ford under original twin choke was an attempt to alleviate this a bit. I can't imagine how bad the single choke setup would be, as the carb is very close to the front of the engine on these manifolds, and not centred like the twin choke. The triple carb setup gives one throat for each cylinder, and apparently wakens the engine up everywhere, not just top end power. I have not fitted and tried them yet, so cannot say this from my own experience, but a few people I know who have had them say the difference is significant and very noticable. And they look cool too :)

All sounds pretty feasible to me. And yes, they do look cool.
