New Transit Mk1 from Finland

Postby aki74 » Fri Aug 19, 2005 9:19 am

Hello All

I just bought a Transit -67 pick-up with dual wheel LWB v4 2,0.
At the moment the car is driveable, but it needs some restoration. My plan is to get it completely restored. To do that I will need to do some welding on the sills and floor, dew exhaust, new seat upholstery, new wooden platform and of course paint the whole car. Engine and trans seem to work fine and some repairs have been done in the past (new piston rings, bearings, valves).
This Transit was still in everyday use 2001 but now it has been resting for a couple of years. I intend to use it now and then but mainly it will be my hobby to restore and maintain it.

Welcome! She looks quite sound. Do youself a favour though and get rid of that carpet! It will trap moisture and set up rust. Is it just the pisture, or is that a really big pick up bed? I am curious about the wheelbase of your truck, the pictures don't show it.

Carpet

Postby aki74 » Fri Aug 19, 2005 12:42 pm

Yes, it would be wiser to just paint the floor well and use loose carpets. But as my goal is to restore and get the car inspected to museum registry here in Finland I think I will have to get the carpet, at least for the inspection anyway. To get it inspected will prove me that I've done a good job and I don't have to pay the vechicle tax we have here. (It's about 100e/year). Also the insurance would cost less.
We do have problems with moisture inside cars, especially winter time with the snow and all. In the vintage cars many use old newspapers underneath the rubber carpets to suck in the moisture and it works quite well. You'll just have to replace the papers time to time, but the cost is low.

The wheelbase is the longest I've seen here. I'll measure it, but I'd say its the three meter version. Gross weight is 6070 LBS.

Model on the Id-plate is DDX, does someone know what that stands for?

Is there a second plate on the vertical part of the left step? If so, this is the SVO plate, special vehicle order from Ford. This is present in the Mk2, but not sure about the Mk1 as long chassis were not made by Ford, but licenced out to other countries.

Wheelbase

Postby aki74 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:06 am

I measured the wheelbase and it was three meters. I don't think it's anything but a standard model, at least no SVO. There is a field on the ID plate for SVO- markings but it's blank.

What really made me want this car were the dual wheels. I guess I'd like to be a trucker...

No mate, the SVO plate is a completely seperate plate to the ID plate. It's on the bit of bodywork directly above the wheel, on the same side of the van as the ID plate. At least it is on the Mk2, could be different on the Mk1.

white grille

Postby aki74 » Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:08 am

Did all transits have the lower part of the grille painted white? My transit has been repsrayed and now its all CE blue.
I quess I'll find white paint under the blue when i start the paintjob if it has been there.

What is the paintcode for the white colour?
