Mk2 Diesel

Postby Paulo Polaroil » Wed Jun 15, 2016 3:08 pm

Hello guys, it's me again. I was about to buy a petrol Mk2 Transit, but it was not as good as shown on the photographs. So I found another one, Mk2, diesel, 1980, 50 000 km, original paint, seems to be rustless. It's now mine, but I have to travel a bit to get it, in a couple of days.

looks really good! Was the sliding cargo door a LHD option only?

I wonder why the RHD versions never got the sliding door? That would have been so much better than the swing open cargo door we all got lumped with! Ze Germans must have kept schtum about this nice feature!

I have never seen a half or full cargo bulkhead on a NZ built van, v. cool!

Sorry, what is a "bulkhead" ? Is it another nickname for the "bullnose" ?

Thanks.
Is it bolt-on or weld-on ? If I have to remove it for some reason ?

Hey guys,

I'm now the proud owner of this Transit.
A few things to fix, though.
The injection pump does not work well. The previous owner installed a manual pump on the fuel line because sometimes ( every... 30 km !) there is not enough of gasoil making it through the pump. I can't see no signs of leaking on the fuel lines, and the Transit can't run above 85 km/h. What should I check before calling an diesel engine expert ?

Thank you !

Oh, and here's another picture of this mk2 :

Wow, super clean and a nice TY175 as well!

There may be a mesh filter on the fuel inlet in the diesel tank that could be blocked? You could try blowing down it with compressed air to clear it.
