Hi,

After this post where I tried to decode the VIN number before I went to the RDW (Dutch DMV), I would like to start a new project topic. I visited the RDW last week and even without finding a VIN number on the chassis or slam panel I've managed to import it. They smashed a new VIN number in the chassis so it's all legal. Now I've got 8 weeks to get it ready for the MOT.

First step is to rebuild the drivetrain and brakes.

Little progress. Got everything apart, having some trouble though with removing the kingpins of the front axle. I cannot get out the lock pin that is holding the kingpins in place. Any advice on how to remove them?

Also there seem to be some damage on one of the axles where the front hub slides on. Should I replace these?

Try warming it up with oxyacetylene or dril it out start in the middle with a small drill and keep getting the hole bigger try not to drill into the axle.
as you have the axle off the van and when you have the lockpin out you’ll be abe to get a good swing at it with a sledge hammer or even get it on a press .

You think this happened before? There seems to be a hole next to the pin that holds the kingpin in place.

Looking at the way the head of the cotterpin is mushroomed over the grove in the kingpin was not lined up correctly or the hole in the axle was not cleaned up before hammering in the cotterpin you knock it out the opposite way it whent in

Used a 10T press already but it just wont come out. Worried a bit though about the hole that is next to the cotter pin. I'm quite sure it should not be there...

Very little progress, but at least there is some. I like the MK1 transit wheels more than the MK2 wheels, so I bought a set of MK1's and powdercoated them white. All suspension parts are black.





I'm having trouble with the stub axle bolts though. Had to buy a new stub axle because one was worn out. However, the new one does not have these bolts and the old one is already gone. Does anyone know the size of these and how it is called exactly? I've got one out from the old axle and the diameter is close to 11mm, meaning it should be 7⁄16″? with a fine thread of 0.05"?

But is isn't a wheel stud. It is holding the bracket for the caliper and brake dust shield. Wheel studs are metric and have a size of M16 or M12, this stud is UNC (fine thread imperial).

Small update. Still a lot of work needs to be done. Biggest challenge will be rebuilding the rear brakes because a threw away the old brake shoes with all the levers for the automatic-adjustment system to it. Stupid me. All bushings have been replaced with original Ford bushings, same for the bearings. All new brakes around, new master brake cilinder, new drums, new brake discs. New U-joints in the driveshaft and also all new Ford ball-joints.
