[Engine] York 2.4/2.5

Postby Tomfish » Tue Aug 14, 2018 1:44 pm

Currently I have two engines for my Ford Transit MK2 '78. One is the (probably) original York 2,4L engine, the other one is from a later MK2 transit and has DI on the air filter. I assume this one is the 'improved' 2.5L version of the York. Does anyone know what the differences are besides the increase of volume. I've already noticed that the later model has an Lucas injection pump and the early one a Lucas CAV.

I would like to rebuild one of these engines, I would like to figure out which one would be the best choice.

Many thanks in advance.

The 2.5 di is the better choice as it is direct injection it starts better does not need heater plugs and has more power they were both fitted in the mk2 the mk3 is slightly different on the front of the engine the vsccus fan mounts on its own bearing unit when I did one for my mate years ago I fitted the early water pump to fit the fan in its original position and a new exhaust system as the di has a bigger bore system

No can-do, it's a 2.4 diesel, in The Netherlands you can't just change it to a V6 petrol. If I would go crazy, I would fit a 6 in-line BMW. I like the simplicity of these engines though, so I rather stick a 2.4/2.5 diesel in it.
