Mk2.1 and mk2.2

Postby loot » Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:07 pm

I've seen the 2 and I prefer the earlier 1, the later 1i don't like, is that the 1 that is referred as the bull nose?

This should probably be in the transit talk section but not much traffic in this forum so I'll leave it here.

Which is better or which do you prefer?

I believe the earlier 1 is a full metal front panel yes? And the later is a plastic grill and plastic indicators with black angled edges.

Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind the change? I'm assuming less water or rust or sound? Certainly don't think it looks any better.

Probably cheaper to make Save a few pence one one not much but on thousands big saving and the plastic one it’s easy to do cam belt saves bending the metal work to the socket on :)

Mk2.1 and mk2.2

Postby bulls in transit » Thu Sep 13, 2018 10:31 pm

Mk2 phase 1, plastic grills phase2, sure Mutley/bambi will be able to tell you the change over year, metal fronts the earlier years of mk2s, think phase 1s look better too...

you could order any configuration at the time if you paid the extra ,,, if you bought a facelift you can always fit a tin front

I think Bambi was just playing.:-)

Is the front panel welded or bolted on do you know? I'll guess welded or it would look a bit cronk as the bumper etc are only like mk3 escort ones aren't they?

Got loads of plans (long term though) and all hinged on getting this lockup too
