Postby Theulsterman » Fri Dec 21, 2018 9:15 am

Hi guys does anyone on this forum have a MK2 Transit Van in Australia.? I have just bought one and wondered what engine to replace it with.? I want to set it up as a service vehicle for towing a Trailer and MK1 Ford Escort. Many thanks in advance.

not quite, but I am in NZ. I have a LWB Mk2, and have repowered it. If you can live with a GM engine, I can highly recommend this, even the NA version went well, before I swapped to the SC version :) Check it out here:

PS. I use mine as a tow vehicle, and it does this very well!

There is plent of space engine transplants in the mk2 transit its all really down to your skills that will limit a conversion.
Easy coversion would be a di and mt75 out of a late mk3 to mk5. However i hear soare diesel pumps for a di are a fortune down under! Do yous get the pinto engine down there? Thats also a easy option abd will mate to a mt75 with an adaptor plate, and mates to a type 9 5 speed.
I nice fuelly v6 or v8 would be your best bet imo something with plent of torque and auto.
