Where to find tank bands for Mk 2?

Postby Huggorm » Fri Mar 29, 2019 5:06 pm

Do any of you guys know where I can buy two new tank bands? You know those steel bands holding the tank up. I can't find any at the local car parts dealers but maybe some international dealer still have. It is for a 1984 flatbed truck with pinto engine, if it matters.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
Seems like they only have parts for motorbikes, quads and such, and nothing for cars? Or am I just missing it? My german skills are not the best

Rally good dealer! They seem to have every little part to these cars, except the tank bands. But if they don't have it, I guess no one have.

I'm sure if you took your old ones to an agricultural workshop they could make some up and they shouldn't be too expensive considering how and what they are actually constructed from.

Should be 68 liters, according to registration papers. Of course I could make a new tank band, maybe from stainless steel, but I would rather save some time buying one. There is enough work to do on this truck anyway

Hi
It will take approx 15- 20 minuts to make one, if it is both maybe 30-40 minuts
it takes time to seek and to order

First I need to obtain some sheet metal, then I need to cut a long strip with the right width, then I have to weld on a hook in one end and a screw in the other and finally I need to paint it if I don't use stainless steel. Not sure I would be able to do all that in 20 minuts but I will do it eventually if I can't buy stuff somewhere

He asked what size my tank is and I answered him, we don't know yet if he has the right kind. But I might get some from a local scrapyard now anyways

I saw some the other day (admittedly not on a transit) made from the bands that hold on the lids of big oil drums. A pal bought them from a scrapyard, they looked good and were stainless steel.
