fuel and temp gauge issue

Postby pockets » Thu Aug 29, 2019 5:13 pm

I have an issue with the fuel and temp gauge, neither seem to work ,i was wondering as neither of them operate could there be a particular issue with the wiring or electronic circuit , is there a test i an carry out ? already tried the groud test on the sender end with no joy.

There is a voltage regulator which feeds both gauges. On Mk1 it is a box on the back of the speedo and I would guess somewhere on the speedo cluster for the Mk2.

If this fails then neither gauge will work.

ye ive located the gauge voltage regulator ,replacements are quite rare and expensive so have had a go at repairing it, one of the pins on the transistor was burnt out so ive replaced the component , , hopefully the diode and capacitor still function , have yet to reattach to dash so havent tested it yet . will let u know how i got on. job is for a friend.

If you can mend it then that is the best solution.

I don't know if this might work but the voltage stabiliser/regulator for the Smiths instrument cluster in mini, land rover, mgb etc is more common and seems to be a lot cheaper. My guess is that it gives the same voltage and would work, but it is only a guess.
