Mk3 engine to a Mk2 Transit, posible?

Postby straydog » Fri Dec 27, 2019 4:52 pm

Tentative question guys.
I'm thinking of buying an old Mk2 Transit campervan, problem is the engine is knackered.
I also have a Mk3 Transit I have owned since new, this one rotted away around my ears, Long story:-(
But the engine is fine and still runs great, with fairly low miles.
My queston is, how easy would it be to fit the Mk3 engine to a Mk2?
Or even if it's posible....
I obvously have all the running avalable from the MK3, ie Engine, Gearbox, Propshaft, Rear Axle etc.
Any ideas or advice.

Cheers and Happy New Year guys

It’s some time ago so can’t remember any major problems I fitted a 2.5 di in a York engined mk2 all we changed on the front of the engine was the water pump with the threads on to take the viscous fan I think we used the 4 speed clutch on the di flywheel at a later date we fitted a mk3 overdrive box as we didn’t have the overdrive gearbox xmember we cut the mk2 one and lowered its centre mounting point to clear the o/d unit I can’t remember if the prop was a straight fit from the mk3 or we had the mk2 modified by prop shaft specialist.
I have not fitted a 5 speed into a mk2 but I think it has been done by welding the mk3 gearbox tunnel into a mk2 not sure if that applies to mt 75 and the early 5 speed you have both vans so will have all the parts to do the job so as Neil says should be easy .

Thanks for that, think I wait till I got the Mk2 on the drive to look more seriously.
Didn't want to jump in till I had some idea if it was possible.
