Hi there im not near you but am an experienced welded of 30 years and specialise in restoration welding and also own a mk1 transit and have done similar work on a mk2 i owned in the past, you could put patches over the top but wouldnt be very strong would be a bodge and wouldnt last long, the front spring hangers are double skined, leaf springs would need dropping at front to replace both hangers these would need to be made from scratch also cross member needs doing, i replaced all this on my mk2, don't underestimate the work and time needed, templates for metal, cuting, shaping, drilling welding etc and ut all needs to be replaced 100% inline or the axle wont bolt up straight and it will never drive straight, i live in Portsmouth my workshop is in Winchester, if you want to save your van and you want it done properly i could do it for you, but you would need to get it too me, i have a van im doing on here to see my work, look up adam mk1 ok hope that helps

I feel your pain. Hope you get it sorted. My mk2 wasn't half as bad & today I've just finished my engine rebuid.
