sump removal on 2.5 di

Hi I need to replace my sump gasket(mk1 pickup fitted with di and mt75) as it's leaking. How to I remove the 2 rear allen screws? I can't get anything in there as the metal plate is in the way, or can this plate be removed without removing the whole gearbox?

When they are in a Mk 3/4/5 you unbolt the steering rack and can just about get on them, don't know about when it's in a Mk1 I'm afraid.

Just an observation over my years, is that if you jackup a car/van/camper from the sump, when you take the jack away the gasket will have been squashed making it leak oil.
