Differential wanted

Postby doggypaddle » Sun Jun 14, 2020 1:45 pm

Hi all

I need a diff for my 100L type 34? (square axle) ideally 4.11 ratio or 3.5/3.9 Zodiac.
Currently have a 4.56-1 which is quite noisy. would consider same if its cheap and close ish to home to collect but ideally as its going to be a camper want to up the gearing a bit. its a 2.0 pinto. I think a 4.11 or 3.9 and MT75 would be a reasonable combination.
Maybe 3.5 would be too tall?
cheers in advance :D

If you are in Australia I have a 4.0 diff to suit 6 stud wheels for a Mk1 or Mk2 to go to a good home - no cost except you would have to arrange the transport.

I bought this a few years ago for my Mk1 but then didn't think the V4 would be able to cruise up some of the hills here.

What age is your vehicle? For the 5 stud the tallest ratio ever fitted was a 3.7, they are super rare and I have never seen one. I have only seen 3 x 3.9:1. From 1991 onwards the diff changed and the tallest is a 4.11 (unless you get the spanners out and swap bits around)

4.0 was never available for the 6 stud axles, tallest was 4.63. Does it fit the standard axles, or is this an Australian variant?

Year 1998 2.5td
Australian van lwb shr
6 stud , 15" inch single wheel,
225 /70 r15 tyres,

Van revs to much on the motorway in fifth gear looking to reduce revs a bit if possible with diff change.

Hi Matt
This 4.0 diff was commercially modified and is from a Mk1 or Mk2 and is complete with Ford Transit 6 stud axles, brakes and drums. Also 4 single 6 stud wheels to go with it.
Makers name is now illegible. I have counted the teeth on the pinion and crown wheel and it is 4.0.
Country out here is pretty flat except for a couple of really steep long hills and after buying it I didn't think my mk1 with a v4 would have enough grunt with a load on.
Happy to give it to anyone who can organise freight or pickup from Broken Hill.
