1968 Transit mk1 Hello all....

Postby ronohlenkamp » Thu Aug 13, 2020 3:43 am

Hello everyone, pleased to be making your acquaintance. I just purchased a 1968 mk1 that has a Coachwork Conversions Ltd “Freedom Super” caravan conversion. It’s quite tidy but will require a lot of work. I am in Fairbanks Alaska USA working on a military project and plan on flat towing the Transit 2400 miles home to Idaho (through Canada), where I can finish the van up. I have never seen one in my life until this one and just had to have it. After extensive searching online, I haven’t found but one in the USA that like mine, is left hand drive. I’m sure that as I descend further into this little money pit of a vehicle, more of them will pop up around the nation. I can say that I am very pleased to have found this blog, as I am doing a complete restoration on the van and will be relying on a lot of advice from you folks along the way. Hope you are well,

Adam mk1, Adam.9,

Thank you for the greetings. I will post some pics just as soon as I can get it cleaned up a little. Its still sitting in a field as I write. I did take all 5 tires and wheel off and currently am sandblasting the wheels, and new tires come Wednesday. Tires should be mounted, balanced, and back on by this weekend so that I can remove it from the previous owners property. I believe I have found a source for engine parts as long as the Saab 96 V4 is the same as the Transit? I need to repack the bearings front and rear but I am not sure about how to doe the rear bearings w/o some sort of gasket kit. regards to both of you. Ron
