Chassis numbers

Is there a company that can get me the reg number for a Mk 2 with just the chassis number. I have chance of buying one but he cant find V5 or reg number but it still has chassis plate on.

It can be done... but my way has stopped working.
Worst case is that you can apply for the logbook via DVLA, but you may have to treat it as a new registration.
I have heard stories of applying for a logbook without a reg number, they write back and the reg no is in their reply letter, saying they can't process it without the reg no!
