Postby Ghosta » Tue Dec 01, 2020 8:07 pm

We got a mk2 LWB twin rear wheel. The old York out and a 2,5 80ps Td in . What’s my best choise keep the old 4 speed with OD or use the MT75?

If the o/d box is working ok I’d keep it with it working on 3rd & 4 th it’s like having 6 gears I fitted one to my mk3 great when overtaking change up a gear with out taking your foot off the gas .And it saves messing about with the van floor I think I’ve still got a new switch for the gearstick.

Thanks for your answer.

I don’t know if the figures are correct, but if they are . I think 3+OD is close to 4. Or is I’m missing something?
The overdrive is not OK today , something electric i think , checked the switch . But there’s something else messing.
In our old Volvos if there is problems with the Lycock we replace them with a 5 speed.

Bodywork is not a bit problem.

Yes I used to miss out 4 gear changing up straight up to 4 overdrive and then dropping to 4th when needed to when go up inclines if it’s not working maybe fitting a 5 speed box will be more reliable less to go wrong.

You can also look up ratio on doner van, with vin number for example w8 =wide ratio box, C8=close ratio, and also 5th in ether box is not the same ratio so worth comparing with your overdrive box, always thought overdrive box is like 4&a half in overdrive, so 5 speed probably better anyway

I found this .

.
It says 0.82:1 on 5th on both MT75. And 4th+OD. 0.78:1
I’ll check the VIN plate if a remember.

A also find this somewhere over the rainbow.

Another thing, I think a comfortable speed in my old mk2 is not more than 55mph.
This will be our holiday car, no stress allowed on my holiday.
The mk2 will replace this one.

I’ve driven many transits with the MT75 box and I don’t know what the gear ratios were it may have been any of them or just one of them the company I worked for would just order what body they needed and a Diesel engine.
I’d just get a good box that’s the main thing to get right if you go down the 5 speed route or get your OD box repaired mate.
