68 mk1 gearbox reverse Switch (fitting one)

Postby NogE » Sun Jul 25, 2021 7:27 am

Hi all.....
So I'm guessing it maybe possible to fit a reverse switch to this gearbox...an early unit in my mk1 68 transit...I noticed reverse switches for 1970 vans selling online...so thought I'd ask the question about getting one fitted to my 68 van...is it doable..
Cheers..

Have a look around the gear stick mounting there maybe a plug you remove to screw the switch into or at the top of box just below top cover of the box if it has a plug when you remove it allows the reversing switch to contact on the gear selector shaft .

I seem to remember that on mine before I changed gearbox, that the reverse switch was on a bracket mounted above the gearbox. The gearstick itself acted on the switch when in the position to select reverse gear. It might have been a different arrangement as it was a German firewagon with a gearbox which was hung onto the chassis with a top mount, (type F, I believe).

No blanked holes in afraid..... I'm guessing later boxes only had switch fitted....
Does anyone know if the later box side plate will fit the early box..and if reverse position will touch that switch..
