What OIL..?

Can someone advise me on what's the best oil to put in a rebuilt Essex v4.. 1700

20w /40 i think halfords do a 20w/50 for classic engines

Just asking ............................. what would be the problem with using 10w/40 Semi-Synthetic in that engine :?:
