transit mk2 fuel tank

Postby mk2 transit crew » Sun Aug 08, 2021 8:52 pm

Hi All,

nearly got my mk2 transit fully stripped ready to do some welding, luckily not much!!! been restoring a lot of the parts as they have been coming off so its taking a bit longer to get it fully stripped down. i have just removed the fuel tank and found there are presumably metal baffles rattling round inside. Might be a stupid question but are they meant to be loose or are they meant to be fixed inside?

Thankyou in advance to anyone who knows the answer.

Some deisel tanks have a swirl pot which is spot welded inside the tank, that is what is probably loose. I have had a few like that.

Hi Thankyou for all your inputs.

i Think after looking at a new fuel pickup that the float may have snapped off as i dont recall seeing it however the bit that is rattling round is way bigger than that. i will take another look and maybe see if i can get a picture inside and will update all for future reference.

thankyou all for your help.

I still haven't got to the bottom of it but i have seen that the float arm is broken so will have to do something about that. i have a feeling its the baffles that have fallen off as they are the height of the tank and appears to be two of them. i will either have to cut the tank to sort it or replace it with a new one especially as the fuel float is broken i know they are hard to get hold of. It can wait for now.
