Mk2 with 2.4 york engine

Postby casper_denmark » Tue Nov 16, 2021 8:09 pm

Hello!

I am to buy a Ford Transit mk2 with a 2.4 diesel york engine.

What should i be aware of in terms of the engine?
What does it have of weak points?
What is lifespan of the timing belt - and IF it should break, will it then destroy the engine, or is it one of the types, where you are often lucky and can just replace the belt?

The engine has driven less than 90.000 km.

Thank you in advance! :-)

I think from memory that the timeing belt mileage change is 48000 miles if it does snap it will be like a di and bend a pushrod or two and maybe snap a rocker arm but I would change the belt and adjuster as well as the water pump even though it’s not driven by the timeing belt and I’d adjust the tappits at the same time and the oil and all the filters.
Yes the di is a far better engine but if the York is starting and running alright not useing oil and smoking bad I’d keep it if it is bad starting it’s worth changing the glow plugs in the head one you can see in front of the inlet manifold the other 3 are inside the inlet manifold so has to be removed the only difficulty is for one bolt I bent a ring spanner to get it out .
