Transit Mk2 manufacturer date.

Postby mgs » Tue Dec 21, 2021 9:09 pm

Hi, what year did Transit Mk2 start? I am looking at one with a 'P' reg which is 1975. Looking on the internet they were built from 1978. Can anyone explain this. Cheers Mike

I'm not an expert, but as a rough guide, the Mk2 started around 1977/78.

A 1975 is definitely a Mk1.

Is it possible to change the front end from a Mk1 to a mK2 without much problem. The door handles are chrome which has come from or originally from a Mk1. Does anyone know what else to check. Thanks Mike

It has been done fitting mk 2 front end on a mk 1 a local St John’s ambulance had one done years ago near me they didn’t change the dash inside it was a petrol one and they cut the front crossmember off a damaged van to extend the front end they may have also fitted new inner wings I think they did it because it had been damaged.
