2.0L Pinto replacement gearbox to select

Postby Gedi » Thu Apr 07, 2022 4:27 pm

Greetings from Lithuania.
I've got kamper on 1982 Mk2 w 2.0 Pinto manual.
Gearbox screems with metal sound in all gears except 1st on clutch pedal release.
I've found used ones, looks identicaly but has different no on the casts 72 66 7006 CA vs 74 ET 7006 AA
Any opinions?

I suppose first I should look at those that has lever in the middle not on the tail.
1) 72 GG 7006 CA advertised as Transit (1982 Capri Pinto 2.0 with that number in another add)
https://parts.asm-autos.co.uk/find-auto ... bdQYH64BgI
2) 74 ET 7006AA advertised as transit capri taunus (1980 Mustang 2,3 with that number in another add)
https://www.proxyparts.com/car-parts-st ... BIP56styk0
3) 78 JT 7222 AA (also has 7A040AA on tailshaft) advertised as transit mk1 mk2 Capri Taunus
But wiki List of Ford transmissions does not indicated Transit shared trany with the Capri https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_F ... ons#Manual
MT75
Ford Sierra, Ford Granada, Ford Escort Cosworth, Ford Scorpio, Ford Transit
Type 9 (or Type N, T-9)
Ford Capri 1.6, 2.0 1983 onwards, Capri 2.8 1982 onwards, Ford Sierra 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, Sierra XR4i, Sierra XR4x4 2.8, Merkur XR4Ti

One way I know to tell if it's from a transit is the input shaft length, it's the middle length one and has 18 teeth on the gear. Car ones have shorter input shaft within the bell housing and 18 teeth gear, transit ones are almost level with the bell housing, V6 ones stick out from the bell housing and have 19 teeth gear.

Thanks for replay.
Does this related to the dimention differences in F/E types I've found in another post in this forum?

Thank you again,
Type 9 links has no Transit mentioned. So I assume mine is MT75 type.
Finally I've got the gearbox out and it's the same as on sales - 74 ET 7006AA.
Question arises - can a new/rusty 45 y. old box that layd for long, work properly or it needs at least partial rehaul?
My gearbox got an oil leak and then broke.
Where to find Ford part numbers?
