I am not familiar with what the v4 used did the v4 have a rear facing starter motor slung up the side of the gearbox instead of lying along length of the sump/block ? I think that set up is only relevant to a perkins engine setup.

HI, The gearbox is the same but the bell housing is different and instead of cable clutch I think its hydraulic I have tried to upload a picture of one but I doesn't seem to want to do it its off another post on mk1 / 2 transits under different gearbox types.

The early Perkins gearboxes are differnt, the clutch is rod operated & diesel bellhousing has different bolt spacing to the gearbox.

Thanks Ralph, I must admit I have not worked on mk1 transits before so not familiar, just to clarify the perkins bell housing will not fit on later mk1 gearbox ? Thanks

the bellhousing should fit on the gearbox , the bolt position to the engine might be differant looking from the front is your starter on the right ,, or passenger side ?

Hi Neil, the tranny was converted from a perkins to a pinto engine and box changed so thats why I cant tell you what I have , it should be on passenger side but facing rearwards from engine along side of the gearbox.
