Thermostat housing repair / replacement

Postby SteveStone » Fri Oct 13, 2023 11:50 am

Finally got my Transit running well enough to take a short test ride. Afterwards, I noticed that it was leaking coolant around the large hose to the thermostat housing. Was planning on ordering a new hose, but needed to measure the dimensions first (seems to be 45 mm one end, and 40 mm the other end). But there is a large hole right under where the hose clamp has been:

It seems to be made of aluminium or something. Not magnetic. I wonder if it would be possible to weld it? Or maybe some kind of epoxy, like jb weld?

Do you have any idea?

it looks well worn so trying to weld it,I think it will be a waste of time, its well perished, get a new one if you did manage a repair,I don't think it would last and could let you down you need a thermostat housing not a hose

Thanks. I'll start looking for a replacement then. Had a quick look, but did not find any. But I guess the hole spacing is the only important bit. Might be possible to fit something not meant for a MK1 Ford.

Wasn't hard to find. Just need to look at other places than autodoc, etc. For example:
