mk2 Swaybars /anti roll bars

Postby Trynader » Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:04 pm

Hello fellow transit owners,

I would like to fit sway bars to my 1980 transit twin wheel. I have found a sway bar for an mk8 ford that is also a twin wheel. On these the sway bar is mounted at the back of the schock brackets. The mk2 happens to have the same ones, just without holes. The center-to-center on the brackets measures to about 65 [cm], the mk8 sway bar about 75 [cm]. The sway bar looks to have have enough straight bar left to slide both of them 5 [cm]. Then al that is left is to make some simple brackets to where the sway bar links connect to.
So the back sway bar is pretty easy, now I need a solution for the front.
An mk8 would have the link about as wide where the shocks mount. Those links would then be to long for comfort. Maybe using a rear sway bar from a single-wheel mk is the solution, the frame rail in the font are about 95 cm wide from center to center if i remember my message correctly.

I would like to hear if one of you has a better idea.

Best regards,

Kevin

It may be worth looking at if you can find one the 35 hundred weight A series we had two in the 80s they where a total waste of time as a pickup compared to a transit carried less weight but they did have a front anti rollbar

K-Mac in Australia can supply you a front and rear bar for a LWB Mk2. They made me a set a few years back, and I got them to go a bit larger on the rear and front than their listed size. I bolted the rear through the shock mounts too as you suggested, the rear was supplied with "U" bolt mounts which I didn't like.
