mk1 steering box adjustment

Has anyone got a better method of adjusting a MK1 box? Mine has play when the wheel is turned over but very littkle in the straight ahead position. The annoying thing is it doesnt stay in adjustment but alters after any turning of the wheel hard (parking etc).

Have you tightened the ajuster on the side of the box the one with a 17 or 19 mil nut and a screwdriver slot in it if you have and it hasn’t helped the n your box is too badly worn also if you over tighten it you will get a stiff spot in the steering

Yes tried the conventional setting procredure but it doesnt stsy adjusted for long. i guess the box has pretty much had it and presumably parts for them are about as rare as an honest politician.

Don’t now were were you can find the parts but you have no chance then finding a honest politician someone on here running a mk one will turn and be able to help
