what dot brake fluid should i be using

Postby shepped0 » Sun Dec 22, 2024 3:22 pm

Hi All

Looking to change my brake fluid on my mk1 and ashamed to say i have never done it in all the years i have owned it. Question is what grade type of fluid should i be using ie Dot 3 or 4 or something else. Believe also i may have a fluid leak near the master cylinder so plan to check them all in the new year and start by getting the correct fluid
thank you

Dot 4 should be fine in an older braking system.

If you can find any numbers stamped on the unit, it's worth a try googling that number.

if you need a master cyl I find Autodoc have all sorts of random stuff, and motomobil will prob have something at a price. in Uk contract auto engineering in stourport have just refurbed my mk2 cyl with a stainless sleeve.
