Rear axle transit mk2 2.4D

Postby Fabien46 » Wed May 20, 2026 11:55 pm

Hi everyone, I'm swapping my Transit MK2 with a 1.9 TDI and a Crafter box 6 and I'm looking to replace the rear axle to have something stronger. I'm afraid the original one won't hold. Do you know a stronger, longer model? An MK5? I just want it to fit into the blade spring brackets. Afterwards, for the rest, I'll manage to weld, but I wouldn't want to change the main supports. Thank you all.

Sorry for the translation, I'm in France.

I don’t know if the mk 1&2 are the same spring saddle width as a mk3 but a mate of mine fitted a mk5 into a mk 3 the only problem he had was the shock absorber mounting was different think the mk 3 was on the front of the axle and the mk 5 was on the rear he cut the mounting off the mk 3 and welded it to the mk 5 axle also the mk 5 axle was slightly wider so the wheels filled the archers but didn’t catch the bodywork I think the prop shaft was the same fittment on his but you will have to modify yours.
You will need to take some measurements to see if they are the same width.
