Mk 2 heater... full throttle or bust?

Postby Beefy » Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:44 am

hi guys, ive eventually got on this thing and putting it to use..

anyway,
my 1984 mk2 2.5di has decided that it dosent want to play in regards to the heater fan.
it will only work on speed 3.... 0,1,2 doing nothing.
I have checked the switch out for continuity on a multimeter but all positions work fine.

has anyone else had this problem? fixed it? or know a diagnostic for this. is there any typical faults that might cause this or is it just my heater motor waving a white flag?

ps: anyone got a mk2 fuse box door panel thats not snapped off for sale or should i shut my eyes while you point and laugh?

cheers, Beefy (toc #500)

it'll be the resistor pack thats gone, fairly common on most cars with similar setups.

the switch just switches in along the resistor for 1 and 2 and bypasses it for 3.

not sure where it is, think i may have seen something like it on the lhs of the engine bay, you're lookin for a coil about the size of a tall shot glass with wires comin out

if you cant get a tranny one get down the scrappy and try one out of any car - should work, just make sure its well ventilated when you fit it, they have to get rid of some heat.

yes it's in the engine bay, I think on the driver's inner wing. It has a sort of cage round it made of a plate with holes in it.

I take it your horn works! If not it's the fuse.
