Mk2 Spotters guide please.

Any idea what clues to look for to narrow down what year this Mk2 is and what engine is lurking under the bonnet?
Were they all Yorks or did a bit of Di slip in under the bonnet towards the end?






All I've got for info so far is Graham Robsons' book 40 Years of Transit.
Now if it'd been one of these....

Yes..nice info but at the moment I'm 1000 miles away from it and I'm looking for clues from the photos I've got. The Mrs's dad who's round the corner down in Italy wouldn't know a glow plug from a 3 pin plug, can't do pictures let alone do internet, doesn't speak english and I don't speak Italian so I'd have to translate through the Mrs . Is the engine bay layout exactly the same for York/Di or are there differences?
When did the Di get into the mk2s?

I may be shot down in flames but:- plastic grill/light surounds and brake fluid warning light wiring on master cylinder make it a phase 2 (1982-85?)
and on the oposite side of the engine to the brake cylinder can i see the device?/fuel pipes for the inlet manifold flame heater?

Yes, unless the van has had a 'nose job' with the later front fitted, it's 1984-86. This would have a DI from new if it's the original engine (it's when they came in), with a Lucas CAV injection pump. From the expansion tank I would say it's a factory engine. so 99% sure it's a DI. How many sliders does your heater control have? And what colour is the surround? If it's grey and has 3 sliders, it's a phase2 factory diesel, if it's 2 sliders and black it's a phase1 and could be either (originally I mean).

that van is a 1985-86 2.5 di with the optional flame start and twin batterys from new!

its a custom model with optional overdrive and also quaterlight windows!

I have never seen opening quarter lights on a Mk2 before, could they have been a minibus option?

I can see the expansion tank/engine is factory, but for me the heater controls would clinch it.

Quater lights could've been a popular option in Italy with 40degC temps round where it's lived all its life.

The engine looks its a di 2.4 or 2.5 but it isn't the later version of the 2.5 di as fitted to the mk3. Does having two battrey trays indicate something, becouse mine have two? And I wish I find two quater light windows because here in Malta is the same as Italy ... leave it an hour in the sun and it will be like an oven
