mk2 front axle needed. got one at last !

anyone got a front axle for a mk2 long wheel base need to upgrade my mk1 landliner from non existant drum brakes to disc do i really need to change the whole front or can mine just be converted ?

whereabouts are you :?:
i think a swb axle can be converted to lwb using just the hubs and also a mk3 lwb set up will fit - if that helps :D

hi ya i'm in east london having a nightmare trying to find somewhere to store my van, small workshops cost a fortune . doesn't the mk3 transit have indepndant susspension though or do you just change the hubs ?

i only said i need a long wheelbase axle because thats what i was told. can i get away with a short wheelbase axle ?

What van have you got? The Mk3 twin wheel is beam axle too.

no fred that was mk3 swb :lol:

i think mk1/2 swb and lwb beam is the same just the hubs that are different - i think a mk3 lwb is the same too but cant be sure if the hubs will swap :? but i am sure the whole thing will bolt up complete :D

OK I thought you meant the hubs off the SWB will fit the Mk2. That's where I am getting confused. Can you just not swap the whole front axle off the LWB/six stud Mk3 onto a Mk2?

i didnt mean that but now you mention it i 'think' they will :lol: they are wider by about 3/4" aswell 8)

:lol: Well at least you are honest. I would like to give that a try. The hubs have got to be easier to get hold of than a Mk2 front axle.....

the other thing is can a drum brake axle be converted to disks by changing the hubs :?: ie are the spigot shafts the same :?:
