CAN ANYONE HELP MOVE A 77 MK1 FROM NORFOLK to LINCS

Postby Pete-Thee-Beat » Thu Sep 04, 2008 12:40 pm

After years of "wanting" I just bought a 1977 transit camper. Its a van profile with side opening pop up roof . It was restored in 03 and garaged in 05/06. Running etc when laid up. After years of searching I found one with an auto box, my left leg has a mind of its own (paralysis years back) hence no manuals. I was gonna rent a trailer to move it but everyone says the weight will be over 1500kgs, I'm not so sure as its its a van bodyshape, with later inline engine (dont think its V4!) and ply interior. Theres a good chance it will drive with new battery, oil and petrol possibly on trade plates HOWEVER I am not a garage owner. Its in Norwich and needs to get to Cleethorpes. I'm open to quotes or suggestions. My email is doctorshuffle@msn.com ... Send a number/mobile and I will phone ASAP or repost. I'm new to forums so include an email in case I dunno how to reply.

After 2 days of negative replys from trailer rentals and recovery vehicle owners I though I would ask the enthusiasts. This is not my first classic vehicle but it is my first Van. It will put into regular use as well as holidays. She will be looked after and er... cherished. I'm not just a chancer trying to get a bargain I genuinely need some help or even good advice would be greatly appreciated. The seller is needing the vehicle moved ASAP. Yes I shouldve thought of this before bidding on ebay, but love messes with your head!!!

PS Sorry if I got the MK1 bit wrong, I realise 77 was the engine change year.
Cheers Everyone (anyone?) Pete-Thee-Beat

Welcome mate :)

Try ebay for transporting it.

You got any photos of it yet?

Welcome. If your van has a flat front, it could be a crossflow in line engine. If it has a bull nose it could be a pinto. You will have a Mk1 as the Mk2 didn't come in till 78, I would know as I have both, with just two months in between, both on S reg.

In 31 years anything could have happened. We have a pinto and a cologne in two of ours, one left Ford as a diesel and one as a V4 and both are bull nose. Another one left Ford with a crossflow but now has a 2L V4. Another is auto and was originally a crossflow, as the log book says 1.6L, but is a 2L V4 now. That one is a flat front S reg

My point was there is no use stating what the only option was in 1977 for an auto. Pete already mentioned a later inline engine, though could have mistaken a crossflow for a pinto, though it would be hard to mistake a V4 for an inline engine.

They wasn't a Mk1 pinto either, it doesn't mean that you can't fit one. Have you seen the van?

well that's odd, there was a reply between my two from madmark. Wonder why he deleted it? When I said have you seen the van, I was talking to madmark.
