Estimate weight Mk1 SWB Diesel

Postby cartooner » Tue Sep 23, 2008 4:29 pm

Can anybody give me an estimate for the weight of a MK1 panelvan. It's a diesel with a short wheel base, not heightened and with single tires at the rear. I need to haul the thing but have no idea of the weight. thx.

Well, I'll just remove the front, hood, windshield and a ton of other stuff and then I'll haul it to You (It will weigh a lot less than 1400 Kgs by than). Well thx for reactions guys. I found it in a barn and the owner has died and now it's mine for not much.
Yes these finds do exist!

Why are you taking the parts off it? Guessing from the wipers I would say it's left hand drive, so where are you?

Well, I am from Holland and I guess I use too many american words. This picture does not show the bad stuff. The roof has a dent the size of a swimming pool and some body parts are too rusty to use. Than again there's loads of usefull stuff on it.
Sorry but this one is not going to survive.

I bet you the roof will push out from inside, and that many of the members on here with Mk1s have already tackled far worse rust then it's got!

Even if it would be salvagable, the problem is the former owner has sent the original registration papers to the authorities claiming the car would be scrapped. That was years ago. This car officialy doesn't exist anymore and therefor it would be difficult to get a new registration for it. Furthermore apart from the rust and the swimming pool roof I bet all the brakecilinders are rotten. The 2.4 diesel could be scrap or may sing again, I don't know. I can definately use many parts for my other MK1. I'm going to
take it home next weekend and do some further investigation. I'll post more pics.

making it exist again is much easier than welding and brakes are also much easier than finding decent shells!!!

If you need to prove it exists most registration departments will issue something age related on the nod of a recognised club and i guess the guys here would be able to sort that easy enough!!

otherwise it just becomes a personal import into whichever country you're in and re register it as such with a dating certificate based on chassis plate.

KEEP it intact if you can - if you need bits we'll find the bits and you can find a buyer easy enough and still be quids in with an easy conscience!!
