mk1 camper same width as a mk2?

Looking at the seating arrangements it seems like a mk1 camper has a bench that runs down either side of the body but a mk2 camper can have a bench down the side AND a picnic style bench... is there any reason why you couldnt knock up the same arrangement in a mk1 as a mk2?

HI my mk2 has different layout I have bench seat behind driver but dining area behind pass seat plus overcab bed making 2 doubles 1 single.

Rebuild for the third time. The interior is from a campingwagon from 2003 that crashed.
