Mk1 diesel

Postby FredTransit » Thu Nov 13, 2008 2:29 pm

I have been offered a Mk1 minibus with a diesel, not even been told which engine but am told it's got 2L on the log book, so I am assuming (if it's original) it's a perky. For 1968, am I right? If so what am I letting myself in for? Should I out it in favour of a DI?

Throw the Perky in the nearest skip NOW :!:

They were fine in Farm Machinery

Useless in modern vehicles........

Get a DI You know it makes sense 8)

Exactly, I bet it will have a top speed of about 40! I am told it's a 2L, so it can't be a DI, what else could it be besides a perkins?

I don't want it to be fast, but at least 60 would be nice, I would like to keep it as original as possible but if not with a bull nose could fit a pinto.

If its '68, diesel and orginal it'll be a 4/108 perkins, 1760. I like my perkins, seems a straight forward engine, always starts and I've grown to learn that not everything in life is about speed. Mine's a SWB and I can get 45 out of it when the wind is blowing in the right way.
