Brake cylinders

Postby TopEndTrannie » Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:16 pm

My Mk 2 needs new brake master cylinders and slave cylinders. The only place I can find that sells them in MotorMobil in Germany. My question - can I get them in Australia? Anyone know anywhere?

Can't you try you auto factors/ parts shops , even if you find an imitation parts , they would need some modification but work quite good.
Dont know how its the system there , but here in Malta I can find thoses parts in any Service Station (Petrol station).

Thanks for the tip - I don't hold out much hope, we only have two car accessory shops here in a small outback town. But I'll go and ask

A Mk3 or Mk4 brake servo and master can be fitted, with a bit of modification, and is still available new.

A mechanic friend of mine has suggested removing the cylinders and sending them to Darwin for resleeving with stainless steel. This will result in virtually new cylinders that will last longer than the factory ones and cost less than half the price.
Sounds good to me

Thats a neat idea , but as Fred sugested a MK3 /4 servo is still avilable and also improves the brake system because it reduces the force you have to make on the pedal because of larger area servos
when mines fail I will do this.

OK - I'll look into the Mk 3/4. Trouble is, there were very few Transits in Oz before a couple of years ago. It is only now that we see them appearing on the roads.
I got a quote on reseleeves and its almost double the price purchasing new ones!!! So I'm chucking that idea out for the time
