mk2 180degree opening doors

Postby mike c » Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:46 pm

today i went to the builders merchants to get some hardcore for the garage floor, first attempt failed as the fork lift couldnt get the bag in due to the doors only opening 90 degrees

so i came home, drilled out the pins for the door openers and voila! the doors open fully and the bulk bag went in fine... managed to get home too, the rear tyres were scraping a lot and it was very low at the back but ho hum.

i thought id let everyone know you can do this with the doors really easily, the doors do tend to get in the way a lot with large loads due to their shape

anyone else done this? do the door stop things from a later van fit so i can open the doors like this when i like rather than having to take pins out etc

have a pic of the doors open lots and the hardore coming out...

theres a spring loaded clip on the inside of each door normally that you press in and that lets them fold right back

All the Mk11s I've ever seen have had 180 degree opening doors, as have all the Mk1s, 3,s etc. You just have to pull the spring loaded stops, BUT you can't pull the stops when the doors are open at 90 degrees, you have to pull them back off the stops a little first... :D

the left hand end will definately not fit through the hole in the door.
