mk2 heater

Postby hodgson4711 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 5:32 pm

hi, i bought what was advertised as a mk2 heater matrix on ebay, i decided to try and fit it my van replacing my one last weekend, only to find out. it may be the wrong one. it has three sliding controls for the heater. looking at my own heater without taking it out it looks larger than mine and the top vents are in the wrong position, i only really want the fan as mine sort of squeaks then stops. wouldn't all mk2 heaters be the same if so what have i bought? regards dave ps i'll try and get a photo of it :(

sounds like it could be a difference with phase 1 and phase 2 :?

3 controls is for diesel models - but i'd have thought it would still fit a petrol :)

The fan has packed up on mine, first it wouldn't work on position 1 then only on position 3 then not at all. Is this more likely to be the switch (rheostat??) than the fan and if so can I just fit an on/off switch cos I get complaints from our cellist that she's too cold!

I've always thought it's easier to wear a coat than fix the heater but there you go. It works all right at 55mph with a 20mph headwind anyway.

i think i may have solved my problem its of a mk 3 diesel the fan on the mk2 is fitted at the rear of the unit and on the mk3 it is cylinder shaped and fits into the heater. next question can i permatlly stop my fan from squeaking or do i need a new one. regards dave ps it only cost a tenner plus postage worth a chance

The difference between the fans is that its of phase 2 the one that you bought. to fit it you have to modify the fire wall like I did in my progress report. the phase 2 have that curved part missing and the heater bolts directly to the fire wall.

To remove the squeakes remove the fan and give it a clean with an air gun and lubricate it with wd40 or something than give it two drops of some heavy oil like gear oil in the bushes. Thats what I did and it stoped!
