MK 3/4/(5?) MT75 gearboxcrossmember in MK1 Transit.

Postby cartooner » Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:03 pm

Hi, I'm still in the process of fitting a 2.9V6+MT75 from a 1994 Granada/Scorpio into my MK1.(see other topic). One of the things I need is another crossmember to support the MT75 gearbox in the MK1. I found this one on a salvage yard:

Can anybody tell me if this is the correct one. It is said to have come from a 1994 Transit with a MT75 gearbox. A quick look and trial fit under the MK1 made me think it will work.

thx

yes it has :D

the mounts are the same distance apart but they may need adapting to fit the mk1 as the rear spring hanger is in the way :D

also remember its handed - ie the mount is not central :!:  :D

Cheers Luke, Yes indeed it is handed. It seemed a bit akward at first, the original crossmember must be handed too. Didn't pay attention to that. This made me doubt at the breakers. Glad I took it with me though. One step further.

So luke the gearbox is mounted a bit on one side , is that what you r telling?
I have never noticed that! Maybe should take a look at mine's because the van vibrates a little even after a gearbox rebuilt!! But from what I remember it got in straight with no trouble!!!
Cartooner that the right member as luke said, but need to modify the ends, maybe will be easier to use the ends off the current member you have there.
good luck!

Mk3/4/(5?) MT75 gearboxcrossmember in MK1 Transit.

Thx guys, I already fixed it. Had to cut 1/2 inch of the mounts that face the back of the car, to get the crossmember enough backwards against the rear frontspringhangers for the front holes to line up with the existing holes in the framerails( mountholes only needed minor opening up to fit exacly). Than I had to drill new holes for the rear mounts and make small holes on the sides of the framerails( Dremel multitool with small cutting blade) to make it possible to insert a bolt and washer from the side and hold those with a spanner. Et Volia it's in. Hope this make sense for people who want to try this too. Will post pics when the weather clears.
