MOT Bits

Postby fremsley » Fri Feb 13, 2009 10:19 pm

Hi All,

MOT is due and I'm a bit worried about failure. I'm missing one of the retaining clamps for the battery and the bonnet prop. Can anyone help and suggest where I can get these from?

Cheers

Hmmm. I think you must be confusing me with someone who is technically minded! LEGO is about my limit, hence the need for bits. Would anything from later models fit - IE me going down to scrappy and getting something.

Excellent Cheers. Currently the bonnet gets held up by a bit of Bamboo and the battery is secured with a ratchet - this is ok then?

bamboo on the bonnet certanly is ok :D i think muttley is correct the battery being insecure isnt a test failure (i seem to remember reading it on here) but it still needs to be secure if the police stop you :D

ratchet will be ok so long as the battery acid doesnt get at it :o

Not sure about the battery as it would be best to phone the test station about an insecure battery, as i think it could be a fail and a fine with points if your caught but dont quote me on it.

An insecure battery will not fail on its own! The battery is not a testable item. If it is so dangerous that it may interfere with steering, brakes, or suspension then it may fail for that reason, but on its own a missing battery clamp is not a reason for a fail!

Just thought I'd put my tuppence worth in :D

My Mk1 got an 'Advisory' notice on it's MOT for an insecure battery.

It seemed that the battery was about 20mm too short in it's tray and the sliding clamp didn't quite cover the lip on the bottom of the battery :o
