Temp Gauge reading high

Well yest I have replaced the temp sensor to a one which I removed off an early 2.5di , before I fitted it I cheked it with the ohm meter , and it varied as I put a small lighter flame to it. The gauge now is working and after about 15/20mins running, it marks that the engine is at a high temp.
Is the sensor the right one for my application? I assume it is, since the electronics (voltage regulator and sensor) are both off the mk2.
Or maybe I have to check out the termostat ? It isn't any older than a year..
Have read here that mk2 gauges have a tendency to mark on the cool position

my frend i think the sender needs to be a white one, but not 100% shure , when i change engines i keep the original sender this i know is the correct one!
some mk2 transits diesels did run half way on the gauge but most sit around quater!
is this the only sender you have??????? anyway of getting anotherone .i cant see its the stat unless it seems very hot the engine,you could try running it without and see what the gauge says then!

But isn't that the voltage stabilizer is shared with the fuel gauge? This works fine and very precise!
I think the one I removed was pink , but the one I put did't noticed the colour. The engine seems to work at normal temp , after about 7 miles it will be hot ok but not that much, and it also has original toyota super red coolant.
Does any one know what colour the sender will be then for a mk2? or maybe I need a pinto sensor since it was a petrol van??

so would this explain why both my gauges start halfway up and then go on from there????

the stabilizer thing is sometime a closed metal box or on later mk2 its an open black plastic box (with a diode and capacitor in it ) just behind the fuel and temp gauges. Its holded by a self taper, and then you just pull it out.
The gauges are forced to go back by the action of a small metal piece that acts like a spring, maybe sometime they have been touched!!
