My Mark 1 was made before Australia converted to metric in the 70s; didn't the U.K. convert to metric at the same time?

One of the differences I have noticed is that the brake shoes in the Mark 2 are wider, which is in good part why I want to update my Mark 1 rear axle.

OOPS!!! Disregard that; only now I noticed that you said "SWB" and my mind is still on dual rear wheel axles,.. but it might still be the same difference with them since Mark 2's have front disc brakes.
