MK3 bits

Postby Chaz&Saz » Sat Apr 18, 2009 7:40 pm

While the progress on my Mk1 Landliner is so far slow due to me not looking that hard for parts I have been offered a rusty Mk3 twin wheel 2ltr petrol. how much is transferable? Is the front axle the same as would be nice to have disk brakes Do mk3 have the same rear wheel cyl? Will the master cyl/servo change over(i have to weld bulkhead so moving mounts would be possable) . Im guessing the wheels will be the same PCD and Offset. Any other parts usable? better heater etc.
All the best Charlie

with a few mods you can get a lot over fairly easly - the axle will bolt up - just change the steering link ends as the tapers different but the whole arm bolts up no probs :D

servo will fit ive been told but not done it myself :D

I will see how much the guy wants for it.
Big question is with the standard drums will it stop? With driving the Triumphs im used to classic brake performance (sometimes lack of) I will get some stainless braded hoses made up to replace the rubber flexis which is a nice upgrade in making the pedal firmer. Do any models have a smaller bore master cyl to increase the line pressure.
Thanks for your help Charlie

One of the transits I have dismanteled had a Lockeed (or what it is called) master cyl, and it was smaller in bore size, I think that when I measured mine it was 23mm diam while this one was 19mm. Maybe it was takenfrom a Lwb van  or it is a difference because of different brand name?
Haven't used it as it was rusty, but it should provide more pressure, but at the expence of a little bit more of pedal travel!

I looked at the Mk3 yesterday with a view to use it for parts. Its a 1990 with a pinto. I am planning on using the front axle with brakes, and the master cyl/servo. Any other parts worth saving?

our landliner was om drums and it stopped good and sharp unless it had got wet...
drums have a self servo action if set up correctly..

the discs would be an improvement though im sure.. dunno aout hte pinto though might be a bit gutless.. although it would get you moving about at least...

Im keeping the essex, Was at the engine shop yesterday getting stuff done for work and managed to keep the landliner block in the hot wash tank for 12 cycles so that is now very clean. crank is getting ground heads are looking good, so hopefully weld up the nasty bits and bolt in a fresh motor soon :)
