Unique Italian Mk1 Camper questions

Postby scilpo » Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:22 pm

hi my name is paolo, i'm italian, and this is my new mk1 camper

Image

it's a 1979 ford transit, 2.4d, 4 gears, and the camper is from an italian make, the "minonzio" (it's an italian brand that used to do "hot dogs trucks")

i've just bought it with a friend of mine, we've already tested it for a few days and we've figured out some little problems:

1 - fuel gauge works for 10 minutes every 10 hours :D lol - when it's not working it stay near the zero with the red low fuel warning light on and other dash lights stop working.

2 - temp gauge does not work

3 - it's quite difficult to fill the fuel tank, cause the pipe is nearly horizontal, and it's not straight, so the gasoil makes a lot of foam

i'm sorry for my english... :D

bye bye

How do you say its a 1979? Mk1 's stopped production in 78 when mk2 was put into the production.

the temp gauge : check first of all the wiring, then remove the sender from the thermostat housing, and check if it varies its resistance with temperature by heating it by a lighter .
Then remoce the instrument cluster, and you should find a little metal box , near the temp or fuel gauge from behind. Change this as this is the voltage regulator for the temp and fuel gauges, and might also sort the fuel gauge prob.

Else check wiring to tank, and maybe cheking the sender unit by removing it from the tank, with a multimeter. see if it varies lineary with changing its positon (approximatley).

And Benvenuta all Ford Transit Forum.

yeah i know mk1 is until 1978. probably it was built in 1978, and the camping unit was built between 1978 and 1979... cause i've found on the papers that the actual plate is a 1985 plate, but the first plate is from 1979....

in the next days i'll try to do something you've told me for the gauges... thank u!

i attach some other pictures...

bye bye!

yes, there is no rust, except for one point. in the photo of the table, u cannot see that in the pic, but there is some rust around the window, in the bottom part of the window. probably there was a bad window trimming and some water used to enter from there... i saw the problem but i really don't know how to solve it. the water does not enter anymore, but the rust is there... but i think that's not going to weak the structure....
