mk 1 transit clutch ??

Postby transit ices » Thu Jul 30, 2009 11:03 pm

hi guys this is my first post i have a mk1 transit, with a crossflow in it, fourspeed box with a pto coming off it, and i have a crap clutch, loads of travel then a heavyish pedal for the last 2-3 inches, with it running if you lift the clutch it sharply bites straight away, and only works in the last 2-3 inches, it has a hydrolic clutch set up, ive fitted new master cyl and repair kit to slave, still the same it has a rod to adjust to slave cly to clutch fork throw, ive tried this both ways still the same, so im thinking a clutch kit next, but ive never seen another mk1 with hydrolic set up ? so i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts is there any faults with the clutch forks ?? has this been an alteration when they did the pto conversion, this was done from new so couldnt have been this way for the past 30 odd years surley

Welcome :D

Isn't there suppose to be a return spring on the pedal :?:

Have you checked/greased the moving pivots :?: (may have dried out over the years)

Does that mean your whippy machine is in the middle of the van :?:
Does the speedo run while the machine is running off the PTO :?:

And finally................Let's have some piccies of your van :D

pto runs off the side of the lathe shaft and dissengages once the cluch is pressed, so the speedo alwasys stays on 0mph, and yes the machine is in the centre rear of the van, but not because of the pto drive as that only runs a 3 phase alternator, and its an elctric drive 3 phase whippy machine, but i have 240 volts lights and plugs etc, as for the spring it has one and the pedal is in the correct position and returns ok, just doesnt push anything until it hits the bottom bit of the travel, and all joints move freely by hand and all look ok, been bled etc i think its the pressure plate fingers have stuck in, but thought id see if anyone had come across this before, as for pictures im busy restoring it but ill upload some and add them at a later date :D

Is that a Morrison "Electrofreeze" conversion :?:

If it hasn't been used for ages, it could well be the pressure plate :!:

yes thats the one morrison electrofreeze, quite rare to be built on a transit as they were nearly all built on the bedfords, and it has stood for a couple of years but ive driven it around the yard now for a week and its still the same so it looks like its box out time

Super rare that is :!:

Make sure that 3 phase generator is well ventilated and clear of dirt :!:
As they used to catch fire when neglected :!:

Morrisons recently rebuilt a Transit version to "as new" :o Have you seen it :?:

I think there's still some sort of copyright existing on the "Mr Softee" or they were playing it safe :?: Who knows

But look forward to you starting a "progress report" on this and look forward to seeing it at some shows in the future :!: :D

How do the springs fit, as the body always looked a bit short for the Transit leafs on these :? :?:
