Front Chassis Hanger/Leg Repair Section- mk 1 -where to find

Postby Sooziem » Mon Apr 10, 2006 5:05 pm

Hi there

Hope someone can help - we're looking for a front chassis hanger/leg repair section for a 1976 mk 1 transit camper, does anyone know where I can get this?

We're in the Glasgow area and cost permitting happy to pay courier charges to get the van back o the road asap.

Thanks in advance

I don't think Neil ment they had the panel, I think the idea was to get some box section from them and get a welder to fabricate the part.

Hi
Fred suggested to me that it might be possible to use a mk3 repair panel from Hadrian panels on my Mk2. I expect the mk 1 is a bit different again but you might be able to make one fit.

you wont find mk1 or mk2 front spring hangers i suggested to the club that i could get them remanufactured if there was enough interest but as now one bothered i didnt go ahead. It seems to me all they do is talk instead of getting things going.

When you say club are you talking about here? Because this isn't a club it's a Forum! Which is a place for people to talk!

Just out of interest how many of a particular pressing would need to be made to make the price reasonable ? In the case of the spring hangers you would only need to press the two outer plates one of each hand, the center section could just be folded.
I expect a lot of people would fabricate the parts who were rebuilding a Transit themselves. Are there any Transit specialists anywhere that could carry a stock of bits until people needed them perhaps.

spring hangers

i am talking about the club -- if any one is interested from the forum let me know.I would have to have 50 made at a time.People could bodge something themselves but all 3 sections of hanger are spot welded together and there is also a anti friction plate inside which you cannot see, this stops the spring bush rubbing on the actual hanger itself.

I think it's a good idea just depends how many people are interested.
I have one new spring hanger that I bought off ebay for a stupid price, but really need a second to make a good job of the repair (when I get round to doing it). I will probably have to make one myself or modify a later one. I guess you could fold the shape with square corners and weld in the curved sections. The anti friction plates on my new one appear to be welded on washers, are they all like this ?

Have you tried Peter Lee from the club, maybe he could put something in the news letter.

hangers

Postby sparesman » Tue Apr 11, 2006 5:34 pm

yes they are all like that ---this is also spot welded on.I dont think you get the same strength mig welding i might be wrong.Mine would come ready to slot staight on.But to save on cost you would have to weld on the small bracket that takes one of the engine crossmember bolts in this way the hangers would be universal ,just fit the bracket on left or right.Yes i did mention it to peter and he put in mag but no response !!!until they actually need one to late then
