Mk1 swb prop

Postby pippadee » Sat May 28, 2005 10:38 pm

Hi, does anyone know if Ford made a swb overdrive prop for the mk1 v4? If so does anyone have one for sale or how it was actually made up? Other than that can a lwb twin prop be adapted to suit and if so how and have they got one we can buy? Thanks for any help Pip

pip as a matter of intrest are you useing a mk2 overdrive box ,what bellhouseing are you going to use? if you fit the v4 one i think its shorter :? this might make the mainshaft to long ,if you are useing a complet box from a 3ltr you will be ok! maybe somebody else could shed some light on the subject! could you not fit a mk2 prop from a overdrive swb? and somehow fit the centre bearing carier????? if not you will need to have your prop made with the correct end on ,this will be costly! the overdrive will give you is 1200 revs ,if you are dooing 50 it will go to 62 ish! :D

Hi, it is a mk2 overdrive which we think is from a pinto engine. Have already discovered that we will need to use the original bell housing from the v4. Presuming we need to keep a sliding joint somewhere ie. a make shortened twin prop and therefore will need a centre bearing support.

if you are going to do it that way you must make shure the bellhouseing isnt to short for the mainshaft! i saw a v4 bellhouseing the otherday and it is shorter than the v6! the only way to find out is put the bellhouseing on and see if the mainshaft sticks out ,it should be level with the bellhouseing i think! :? as you probly know the box is the same as such as the bellhousing was the only difrence between engines ! but not with the v4 i think !

Mk 1 swb prop

Hello Marks correct, end of the input shaft on a V4 is level with the bell housing flange.I seem to remember reading somewhere that people have fitted the five speed Sierra boxes to V4 Corsairs but gawd knows what bell housing they'll use.I'd be tempted to trawl round the breakers to find a prop with the same flanges but with a sliding joint (usually mounted right at the front) and get the length altered to suit.
